    Accelerating Experience-Based Learning for High-Performance

Experts, scientists and learning specialists agree that experience is one of the better ways to help learners learn. The more experience the learner and worker has, the more they perform on the job.  In typical learning environments, “experience learning” is not encouraged. Consequently, learners try hard to learn the theory and yet forget them as soon as they finish the courses. To prevent this from happening, effective learning incorporates experience-learning before, during and after the learning process – and is continuously encouraged on the job.

    Topics covered:

    • What scientific studies demonstrate that experience-learning is far more effective than other methods?
    • What are the key elements of experience-learning – its design, methods, platform and culture?
    • What aspects of your training plan warrants experience-learning methods?
    • How do you use problem-solving, analytical studies, trouble-shooting, action-research, peer-to-peer learning to strengthen experience-learning?

    The Rise of Competency-Based Education

Competency-based education (CBE) is taking off – and its impact extends throughout higher education. In CBE, students are evaluated and awarded credit and degrees not on seat time or completing traditional courses, but based on their ability to demonstrate specific skills and competencies.

For many students, this speeds up degree completion. And for adult students who have extensive work experience and knowledge gained outside the classroom, and are frequently unable to attend courses offered during traditional classroom hours, CBE can provide a way to earn degrees reflecting that experience and knowledge.

In this webinar our editors will discuss how more and more colleges are launching competency-based programs, the strategies they are adopting, and the regulatory challenges they face. Inside Higher Ed will continue to cover these issues, and welcomes your reactions to these articles and suggestions for future coverage.
